grocery arrangement
I am compelled to arrange my groceries on the supermarket conveyor belt. A tidy arrangement, efficiently covering the two dimensional plane, grouping like items together. I can’t bear to see items thrown carelessly together without being arranged properly.

I do this to save space on the conveyor belt and also because I don’t have faith in the bagger to bag things properly unless I put everything in the “correct” order. I also arrange the food in my refrigerator & cabinets at home neatly & with all the labels facing the same direction.
Me too. And don’t you hate it when the cashier grabs the wrong items in the wrong order?
Yes, I totally do the same thing. I think for me, though, it is less neurotic and more an effort to save myself some time later on while putting the groceries away. But it *totally* irritates me when the cashier puts wrong typed items in the same bag together.
After cashiering at a grocery story for a year, I now load all of my groceries in order of “hardness.” Heavy, solid items like milk cartons, soup cans, etc go first, followed by fruits and vegetables and finally bread. It’s a matter of saving time when I bag, but also ensuring that a lonely loaf of bread isn’t squished on the conveyor belt.
I kinda do all of the above. Everything has to be in perfect order, using maximum efficiency to cover as much of the belt as possible. The items go from frozen, to hard, to soft, to organic (fruits and veggies). also unless there is a good reason not to, they are organized alphabetically in their hardness sector. I try to wait until someone has a lot of groceries gets in front of me because i feel bad and awkward to take peoples time and asking the cashier to wait.
I was behind a woman who did this, with full hand basket, arms about to fall off. I fully understand the need to do this and will occasionally do it myself, but next time can someone maybe let me put the basket down on the conveyor, out of the way? especially for those of us with back issues. I suppose I couldve said something, but i wasnt about to interrupt the ritual to sound whiney.. i suppose this post is my way of being anonymously whiney..
some checkout workers will absoloutely love you for this!!! Having worked in a supermarket for 2 years, it is much easier to pack peoples bags if their items are in a logical order, and not having to wait ages to finish packing a bag because they put one bottle of milk at the start or their order and the other at the end. I wish more people were like you
I do this too, but it’s because the grocery store is far away and I want all my cold items together so they stay cold, and all the frozen things together so I can put them in the cooler. But I do have to tell the checker this and if they bag things wrong it really stresses me out.
