I recommend getting a new rug, sans tassels. Keep the cat, though; you can never have too many cats (that’s my neurosis).

I’m with you on that one. It started with a tasseled rug my parents had when I was a kid. Solution: run a vacuum over the rug, starting on the rug, then go over the tassels in an away-from-the-rug motion. Straightens 90% of the tassels right away. Saves a ton of time.
