fortune cookie new year’s resolution
Whenever I get a fortune cookie, I take out the fortune and put it in my purse. When I get home, I put the fortune into a ziplock baggie and I don’t read the fortune. Every new years eve, I take out the baggie and read all my fortunes. If I like one, I will put it in my pocket, so it will be with me when we go into the new year. If I dislike the fortune, I throw it into the fire as soon as possible. I don’t want to have any bad fortunes. I have been doing this for 15 years. I have a section of my closet that has 15 ziplock baggies (all of the good fortunes). I don’t want to throw them away. And when I die, all of my fortunes will be with me.

I love this, might have to adopt this myself – have any of them come true?
i love this. i am totally doing this, too.
uh…. what are you doing home on new years, friend? go out, do some blow, and party like you are supposed to!
What good will it do to have your good fortunes once you are dead?
Yeah I don’t really get this. That’s kind of like a little kid covering his eyes on scary parts of movies and saying “It isn’t happening.” Whether you burnt the bad fortunes or not, they were your fortunes.
I have a fortune cookie policy – if I like the fortune, I eat the cookie and save the fortune (as if maybe eating the cookie cements my good fortune or something). If I don’t like it, I don’t eat the cookie because I’m afraid the bad fortune will stick with me. All my good fortunes are in a jar in my kitchen.
I can’t look at the fortune until after I’ve eaten the cookie. I don’t think there’s any reasoning for that other than superstition and OCD.
Are you planning to be buried with your fortunes?
i don’t get bad fortunes
I think this is brilliant
I need to try something similar.
I do the same thing that tasty does. If I eat the cookie, the fortune will be true. I don’t keep them in a jar but I do hold onto all of the good ones. Same is true of the tags on Salada tea bags. I get very disappointed if I get one that’s meaningless or is a stupid joke. Sometimes the tag has a good note, though.
Ha, I love this! I do something sort of similar, but I read them all and collect the good ones in a little box for when I’m feeling down.
aren’t the cookies stale at the end of the year?
