maybe some chips will magically appear
When I’m hungry for something specific (but i’m not sure WHAT specifically) i go look in the fridge. Finding nothing of interest there i also look in the freezer and cupboard. With my hopes of finding something i want completely crushed, i return to the couch. I repeat the process again in a few minutes, hoping something will appear.

I do that all the time.
dont worry i do that all the time!
i think its just out of boredom i guess…
lol u never know, something may appear in the fridge that we didnt see last time!
The repetition is what makes it a neurosis I guess, because everyone does the first part of your story.
I go back and forth multiple times. You know what’s crazy, is when I actually find something that didn’t seem to be there 5 minutes ago.
Yeah I’m always doing that. After looking in the fridge and freezer I’ll wander around for a minute or so looking else where and end up back at the fridge, this happens 3 or 4 times in a row usually. Like you said I don’t even know what it is I’m looking for.
I actually did that repeatedly for 2-3 days straight without actually eating anything. I just assumed that I had eaten SOMEthing since I’d gone to get food so many times … until I passed out and realized it had been days since I’d actually found food to eat.
Heh… at some point, you usually get hungry enough that something in the fridge looks appealing. Or inspires you to actually cook. Or you hunt through the stuff at the back of the shelf that hasn’t seen daylight in six months.
@Jes
I’ve done that too. I don’t actually get hungry, and if there’s no food that appeals, I’ll sometimes forget to eat. (I love food though, so I’m not as skinny as you’d think). It used to drive my mum nuts when I was little, as I just wouldn’t eat, and she didn’t know why. She was big on healthy food, and ‘they’ll eat when they get hungry’, but that just didn’t work with me.
haha i do that tooo
Same here. I actually never thought about it but after reading this I thought “Huh well I do that too” XP
I think that if you stare at it for long enough you’ll figure out what you want and make it. I hope
I’m always doing that. I think it’s just once you’ve established there’s nothing easy to snack on like chips you’ll cook yourself something but you don’t want to accept there’s no other option to begin with – no one likes cooking when all they want to do is fling themsleves on the couch and stuff their face.
I usually do this too. I usually do it when I’m bored and having nothing to do. It sucks to continuously see that there isn’t anything good in the fridge/freezer/cabinets.
LOL..i do that all the time….but when i’m bored, after eating o_O
Heh, I call it grazing, and i do it often. its almost a little comforting standing in the dull glow of the refrigerator light. Most of the time I’m not even hungry, I just do it out of compulsion.
I do the same thing when I’m thirsty and in bed. I’ll lift up my cup and hope to find some water left. If it’s empty I have to do the same thing over and over again. Eventually I get really thirsty and get up to refill it.
I DO THAT EVERYDAY FROM SCHOOL. oh my gosh. its so annoying. because i always expect to fine something that i haven’t seen the last time checked.
i do this allllll the time ! just looking again to see if maybe i missed something in the cupboards. haha !
I’m not waiting for something new to grow, so much as waiting for me to lower my standards of what I will accept as snack food. The first three times of looking, “jelly” doesn’t count, but maybe that fourth time, jelly will look like a tasty and perfectly acceptable snack.
Ommmmg! I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I could be wanting to find chocolate in the pantry, but of course it’s not where to be found. Then I’ll look everywhere else, and 3 hours, and then 8 hours later I’ll go back still hoping to find the chocolate that was never there to begin with.
my daughter has done a similar thing since she was very young except she stands in front of the fridge looking in. looking for something? “no, just wanted to see what was in there.” hungry? “no, just looking.” she still does this and will do it at anyone’s house! gotta love her!
Is it the same neurosis to go through all 10 million available satellite channels looking for something worth watching, then doing it again, and again? I just turn off the TV and actually do something, but someone I love just keeps surfing . .
Hahaha me too!
all the TIME
I couldn’t help looking, again and again!
