Whenever I say something I have to repeat the sentence back to myself in my head. I analyze the sentence and determine whether it came out the way I wanted it to come out. When this first started I would also mouth the words and sometimes say the whole sentence out-loud a second time.

I too do this, but it is the result of a head injury during a bus -> my truck accident. It has slowed down my public speaking, and made me write out what I plan to say more. The more off the cuff, the more I have to watch the audience to ensure I have said Amish when I meant Amish instead of Irish when I meant Amish. (that one went 30 min before the wife corrected me).
I think more people should double think their words, just dont lose your courage in the process!
Me and one of my little brothers both do this, too. Maybe it has something to do with the way our brains are wired for language?
