I have three doors on the first floor of my house. Each door has three locks. I have to go to each door (the one farthest away from my room first) and lock each of the three locks three times as well as flip the switch for the outside door light three times. I repeat this with the other two doors exactly in the same order every night. However, after the second door I check inside the two closets that are before the last door, that way I’m constantly moving towards my room. And of course if i convince myself that i did it too fast, i will have to go back and do it all over again. Just in case.

I think this is way beyond OCD! I grew up in a small town where, until recent years, nobody locked their doors, so I have a difficult timing understanding your concerns. Are they based on something from your past? I try to respect other people’s neuroses.
I can understand locking doors. That’s just basic safety and common sense. Especially if you live alone. Most places aren’t like the little town Milan grew up in. Less and less this day in age. Your whole process of locking doors however, is definitely OCD behavior, but so is a lot of stuff on here. You should probably talk to a therapist and work through it. It’s really a miserable way to live. I’ve been through it.

You are worried something bad will happen if you don’t follow your ritual perfectly, and when nothing happens after you complete your ritual, that reinforces the belief that your ritual is working, when really, you could have fewer locks and check them once, and be just fine too. By the way, it doesn’t mean you’re crazy. It has nothing to do with psychosis. Still, get some help because it’s exhausting. I know…I have it!!
