kissy driving

When driving up to a light that is green, and has been green, I always get nervous that it will turn yellow as I’m approaching it or traveling beneath it. In an effort to stop this from happening, I blow the light a kiss.

eat and fly through the windshield or starve and seatbelt safety

i cannot eat if I’m wearing a coat or have earphones in. If I’m wearing a long sleeve shirt i have to push up the sleeves. I just feel so cluttered. If i have to eat in a car i have to take my seat belt off. I know it’s dangerous, but i just can’t eat with it on.

reserve this spot for me

There are a handful of local stores that I frequent about once a week or more. When I go to these stores, I have to park in the same area. At each store , I have a favorite row or area and each time I go I must park in that place. If its full, I go home and come again another time. If someone else is driving , I get very upset if they refuse to park in that same area.

the expert

When traveling by car (usually in the passengers seat) I name the make and model of every car that passes me by. I even name how many generations back that particular generation was released, of if it’s the current generation. If it was within the past three or four years I can usually tell the year it was released, too. I’ve also learned to ID the make/model/generation just by looking at it’s lights in the dark. When I’m the one driving, I do this about the same, except I’ll only glance at the car for a split second and still be able to tell. If I don’t do this, I feel like a ferrari is going to pass me by and I’ll miss it.

settle down there, windshield wipers

If I drive in the rain, then park and turn the engine off, and my windshield wipers are frozen halfway across my windshield, I must restart my car again just to put them where they belong.

it’s not something in my eye

Whenever I’m in the passenger seat of a car, I occasionally blink in sequence with the spaces between the lane dash marks. And when I force myself to look away, I continue to blink sequentially on instinct only to continue looking back on the road, picking up where I left off.

it’s not dry eyes

Whenever I’m on the city or school bus and looking out the window, I have to blink whenever the lines on the sidewalk are exactly next me. Or I have to blink whenever I feel that the bus is in between the separate panels of sidewalk.

won’t get picked up in a pick up

I have a very unnatural fear/anger/hatred of pick up trucks. When I see one in my rear view on in the lane next to me, I have to change lanes to get away from it. This neuroses is empirically based, whenever I get cut off or some idiot is driving like a dumb-ass, invariably, it is always someone in a pick up. I won’t even ride in one!

don’t crash your car, please

Whenever I see a sign on a highway that denotes distances to multiple cities (ie. New York – 50 miles, Philadelphia, 125 miles), my brain goes into a mode that causes me to find the next number in the sequence that both numbers are divisible by. In the above example, the correct answer is 250. It gets much more difficult when the sign is something like 7 miles vs 22 miles.

am i being followed?

I can’t stand if someone wants to follow me somewhere in their car when we decide to go somewhere together. I want them to ride with me so that we don’t have to be alone. Even if it means that there is more mileage in the end.
